Leicester Tigers hosts Wasps at Welford Round in Round 3 of the Aviva Premiership season this Sunday. Kick-off is at 3.15pm and tickets are available now.

In the final game in the third weekend of the season, and just a day after the Rugby World Cup Final, Tigers defend their unbeaten record in the season so far.

Wasps enjoyed a hard-earned 16-9 victory over Bath in Round 2 and will be keen to avenge a Tigers side who won both meetings last season – Owen Williams kicking all the points in an 18-16 win at Welford Road and backs Adam Thompstone, Niall Morris and Vereniki Goneva scoring tries in a 26-21 win in the return when Tigers lost Seremaia Bai to a red card.

The visitors include England world Cup duo James Haskell and Joe Launchbury alongside summer signings Frank Halai, Jimmy Gopperth and Dan Robson, with Australia back-row legend George Smith in the No7 shirt.

Tigers give a home debut and a first start of the season to No8 Opeti Fonua, with England front-rowers Tom Youngs and Dan Cole back in tandem.

“Wasps are top-four contenders, definitely,” said Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill. “They have made some smart signings, they are well coached and it will be a good contest.

“We played well in the win at London Irish in Round 1 but we were poor last week against Quins and we’ve been working on the issues from that.

“But we’re getting bodies back, we’re getting gametime and we’re working on how we want to play the game.”
