Match preview: Tigers versus Sharks

Leicester Tigers defend a 100% winning record on home territory when Sale Sharks travel to Welford Road in Round 11 of the Aviva Premiership Rugby season on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

One of only three clubs unbeaten at home – alongside Saracens and Exeter Chiefs – Tigers enter the weekend in third place in the league table after victory at Gloucester last Saturday.

Saturday’s game represents the halfway stage of the league season and Tigers have lost just twice – away to the top two teams in the table – so far.

Sharks, though, travel in good form too after a bonus-point victory over London Irish last Saturday which featured tries from Brian Mujati, TJ Ioane, Sam James and Sam Tuitupou, and are jjst two points behind fifth-placed Wasps in the table.

Saturday’s game represents an 88th meeting of the clubs, with Leicester winning 63 to 19 by Sale and five games drawn.

Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill said: “We know that Sale are always a tough team to play against. Danny Cipriani runs the game very well for them, they’re good in the back three, strong in midfield and the pack goes well in the scrum and maul.

“We’re aware of their threats and aware of how we need to play. We will have to be physical and have to take our opportunities.”

Back-rower Laurence Pearce scored his first Premiership try in the corresponding fixture last season, with Tigers winning 28-8 at Welford Road in late-February. Click here for the match report.

Kick-off on Saturday is at 3.00pm and supporters can enjoy a rugby double bill with live big screen coverage of Scotland versus England at 4.50pm in the stadium and in bars.

Tickets are still available at the Tigers ticket office. Call in at Welford Road, phone 0116 319 8888 (option 2) or click here to book online. A print-at-home function is available on all online sales for home games, or pick up your tickets from the collection point outside the MET-Rx Stand on the way to the game.

This match is not scheduled for live TV broadcast.

If you are not at Saturday’s game, you can keep up to date via the Tigers website and the club’s social media pages.
