Matchday collection for club charity

Among the special guests at Sunday's match between Leicester Tigers and defending European champions Toulon will be representatives of the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust, an official club charity.

Two years ago, Joe Humphries, a fit and healthy 14-year-old, collapsed and died while jogging in Rothley, just minutes away from his home. He was a victim of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS), a condition that often strikes without any warning.
Joe became one of the young people (aged 12-35) who lose their lives to SADS at the rate of 12 every week, that’s 635-plus every year in Britain alone.
SADS is a group of lethal heart conditions that can cause cardiac death in young people. These conditions can be treated and deaths can be prevented.
This staggering statistic has inspired family and friends to set up the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust, with rugby legend Martin Johnson as patron, to promote awareness and reduce the incidence of SADS.
The Trust will promote research into, and awareness of, SADS; promote education and training for young people and those who live and work with young people, into how to react to unexpected life threatening situations; and inspire young people to fulfil their potential and develop their talents.

“It is easy to underestimate the value of a young person until that young life, so full of potential and goodness like Joe, is taken without warning,” says Joe’s dad and chair of JHMT, Steve Humphries. “Sadly, we are just one of a growing number of families who have been affected in this way. No one should have to endure such pain and grief.”
The Trust will host a matchday collection around the stadium on Sunday. Please give generously.
We will also be joined by Martin Johnson and some of the youngsters recognised by the JHMT Inspire awards.
