Matchday guide: Tigers versus Wasps

Figure image
We've got a big day planned at Welford Road this Saturday as Leicester Tigers host Wasps in the Aviva Premiership.

Victory over London Welsh last weekend pushed Tigers into fifth place in the league table, one point ahead of this week’s visitors Wasps who are the joint-top try-scorers in the competition with 29 on eight league games so far.

As well as activities pre-match and at half-time, this week is Tigers Scouts Day when we welcome hundreds of scouts from groups across the region, including the Scout band who will be playing on the plaza outside from 2.15pm and their Flag Guard in the build-up to kick-off. Leicestershire Scouts are also hosting a number of activities on the plaza.

The Land Rover area on the plaza allows owners to gain access to an area where complimentary tea and coffee will be served and there is also a competition to give fans the chance to win the use of Land Rover’s hospitality box at Twickenham for this season’s Aviva Premiership Final.

The Tigers Maul will also be there, hosting the Speed Pass Challenge and Tigers photo booth.

If Saturday’s game  is your first experience of a Welford Road matchday or if you are bringing family and friends for their first taste of a game, we have launched the ‘My First Matchday’ experience which could you see going home with some Tigers goodies. Sign up a first-time visitor at leicestertigers.com/myfirstmatchday or on matchday with a Games Keeper around the stadium and you will be put into a prize draw.

First-time visitors can also pick up a My First Matchday certificate signed by club captain Ed Slater from Games Keepers. Click here for more details.

The Junior Tigers Club VIP area in the MET-Rx Stand is open for two hours ahead of kick-off with activities and competitions for young supporters, including the opportunity to run out with Welford the mascot as a Tiger Cub or even join the players as a matchday mascot. Membership is free and you can sign up on matchday.

Saturday is also a big day for international rugby, with England versus Australia kicking off at 2.30pm at Twickenham. But you don’t need to miss any of the action as the match will be shown around Welford Road and ‘as live’ on big screens in Final Whistle, as well as in the XV Club and in the Premiership Suite after the Tigers match.

Turnstiles and all bars and food kiosks at Welford Road open at 1pm and the Tigers Club Store is open all day with the full range of home and away kit, leisurewear and souvenirs plus the ‘3 for 2’ mix and match Christmas range. There are extra merchandise units inside the stadium after the turnstiles are opened and the pop-up shop outside the MET-Rx Stand.

The new 500-page Official History of Leicester Tigers is available to buy in Final Whistle before and after the game as well as in the Club Store. This definitive history of the club makes a perfect Christmas present for any Tigers fan.

This week’s match programme includes an interview with Brad Thorn, a special Heroes and Villains column with Matt Hampson, a preview of next week’s visit from European champions Toulon and all the news and views from inside the Tigers camp. The 100-page programme is on sale throughout the stadium, price £3.

Arriva’s special matchday bus services are in operation on five routes, from Market Bosworth, Market Harborough, Melton Mowbray, Oakham and Nuneaton, and there is also a separate minibus service from Coalville. Click here for pick-up points, timetable and fare details.

After the game, as well as coverage from the England match, there is music in the Final Whistle from resident band Rock Bottom.

There is still time to book your match tickets at the Tigers ticket office at Welford Road or phone 0116 319 8888 (option 2). The office is open 8.30am-5pm every weekday, until 8pm every Wednesday, and from 9am on Saturday.

Or click here to book online any time. You can also use the ‘print at home’ option.

All matchday ticket collections are from the Collection Point on the plaza outside the MET-Rx Stand, and not from the ticket office. Please allow plenty of time for ticket collections and to get to your places in the stadium ahead of kick-off.
