Matt praises Panthers' and Aces' efforts

Matt Hampson was full of praise for the Leicester Panthers and Loughborough Aces after the two American Football sides took part in a unique fund-raising event at Welford Road on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Panthers ran out victors by 20 points to 3 in the inaugural Matt Hampson Bowl, but Matt admitted that the crowd of almost 5,000 meant that it was his trust that was the real winner on the day.

"I didn't really know what to expect," said Matt. "I knew the lads had put a lot of time and effort into the match, but with the weather being so bad it was a real surprise to see such a great turnout.

"I've never really followed American Football in much depth but there were some massive hits put in - not bad for guys who hadn't played for 20-odd years!

"Loads of the guys had come over from America, so it was very humbling knowing that people were giving up their time and considerable expense to play in a game for me. I would just like to thank everyone who played in the game and to all those who organised and attended the event - it was a fantastic day. Special thanks go to Dave Hagger and Rex Harrison for all their hard work."

Matt now turns his attentions to finalising and hosting his first summer ball on June 23 at Marston Trussell, where a highlight of the night will no doubt be a performance from current players entitled, "Tigers in Tights"! Tables are still available, so check out Matt's website to book your place.
