#MeetTheFamily: ‘Rucking all over world’

We’ve heard stories from fans, staff and past players as part of our #MeetTheFamily and 125 years of Welford Road celebrations.

While the stadium has developed over the years, there’s some things that never change - like the post-match entertainment with resident band Rock Bottom!

Made up of Pete (guitar), Brian (vocals), Paul (guitar), Rog (drums) and Nigel (bass), the band has been entertaining fans after Tigers matches for more than 15 years.

In a special #MeetTheFamily, we caught up with the band to hear how it all began.

Roger said: “The band was formed about 18 years ago and we were all experienced musicians from our years on the roads with other bands.

“Our first gig at Welford Road was 16 years ago after Brian had seen a band playing at a Tigers fixture at London Irish with the club's former team secretary Tudor Thomas.

“It was largely down to Tudor that we started playing in the Tiger Bar which was in the old Clubhouse stand. And we’ve been playing here ever since.

“There’s so many stories from over the years and we’ve made lots of friends along the way. Tigers is like our home ground. We definitely don't see ourselves as just a band doing a gig, but part of the Tigers Family.

"We had a big scare a year ago when Paul (guitarist) had a sudden brain haemorrhage and it was 50-50 whether he'd survive. He made a remarkable recovery and he says a lot of his motivation was due to wanting to get back with the band and play again at Tigers.”
