Not only was victory over Castres Olympique the first big European occasion of the season at Welford Road, but it also provided “an amazing” first visit to the iconic stadium for the Smith family.

We love hearing stories from supporters so it was great to find some Welford Road newbies to chat to on the day.

Visiting their daughter Charlotte, who is a PhD student at the University of Leicester, Siobhan and Simon Smith made the trip to the East Midlands with Charlotte’s grandparents David and Pat, and enjoyed their afternoon with the Tigers.

Sat in the Holland & Barrett Stand, Charlotte was also joined by friends Keenan and Lizzie, and we caught up with them just before kick-off.

Charlotte said: “We’ve never been to a Tigers match before so it’s amazing to see and be a part of the buzz before kick-off.

“We’ve bumped into a few other fans who were chanting and cheering so we’re excited for the game.

“Our favourite players are Tom Youngs and George Ford so we’re a little awestruck to be seeing them in person.”

Charlotte’s dad Simon added: “It’s a fantastic way to spend a weekend. We’ve travelled from all over for a family reunion and it’s a really special atmosphere here. It’s great to visit Charlotte and, now that we’ve been to Welford Road, we’ll no doubt be coming back to Tigers next time we visit.”
