Memorable matchday for Frank

Frank Turner had a memorable afternoon on Saturday, 75 years after first coming to watch a game at Welford Road.

He enjoyed matchday hospitality with friends and family in the European Lounge as Leicester Tigers faced Saracens in the Aviva Premiership match of the day.

Although Tigers were unable to add a victory to seal a perfect afternoon, Frank was presented with a Tigers anniversary ball from Jordan Crane in recognition of his long-standing support.

“I first came here with an aunt and an uncle back in the 1930s,” said Frank. “I must have been eight or nine years old and I remember Bobby Barr was the Tigers captain.”

Frank, who used to work at Leicester Town Hall, became a season ticket holder and enjoyed some great afternoons at Welford Road. His favourite Tigers match, however, took place on ‘foreign’ soil when the Millennium Stadium hosted the Heineken Cup semi-final against Cardiff Blues in 2009.

“It was an incredible game which ended in a draw and then the penalty kicks,” he says.

And his favourite Tigers players over those 75 years?

“That’s a difficult one,” says Frank. “The whole team is my favourite!”
