England Rugby have confirmed that John Mitchell will be the team's head coach for the game against Scotland A at Leicester this weekend.

Mitchell, the team’s defence coach, will lead the England A team at Mattioli Woods Welford Road on Sunday (2.00pm).

National head coach Eddie Jones said: “Mitch is very good with young players and will pass on his knowledge and experience to this group. The team selection will be a collaborative decision and Mitch will be in charge on match day.”

Mitchell said: “It’s exciting for us to be working with this new group of players and seeing them grow day by day.”

There are six Leicester Tigers players in the England squad preparing for the start of the summer series, including the uncapped Freddie Steward, Joe Heyes, Dan Kelly and Harry Wells. Team news is due to announced on Friday.

Bath forward Miles Reid has been ruled out of the series after suffering a facial injury in training on Wednesday.
