Murphy excited about addition of promising trio

Tigers head coach Geordan Murphy says he is excited about the addition of three promising young players to the club’s Development Squad ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Second-rowers Oliver Chessum and Cameron Henderson, and centre Dan Kelly will join the club after their signings were confirmed on Good Friday.

We have spoken at length about wanting to bring through talented young players and good people at Tigers, which we’re confident these three can be for years in Leicester"

Chessum will move from Nottingham, Henderson from Glasgow Warriors and Kelly from Loughborough Students.

Murphy, who will move into the Director of Rugby role with Steve Borthwick joining the club as Head Coach, said the player and person were both contributing factors when agreeing to add the trio to the Tigers ranks.

“They are all very promising young players who we are excited to see add to the depth in our playing ranks," said Murphy.

“We have spoken at length about wanting to bring through talented young players and good people at Tigers, which we’re confident these three can be for years in Leicester.

“Cameron and Ollie have had stints in our Academy programme and Dan has had exposure to our club through his time at Loughborough which will be important and help them as they settle in next season.

“They have all impressed at various levels on their way up the ranks and complement well the group we have coming through at the club.”

The trio’s addition follows the announcement earlier this week that Academy graduates Freddie Steward, Jonny Law and Joe Browning have agreed new deals with the club and just weeks after confirmation of new contracts for fellow Development Squad members Taylor Gough, Henri Lavin and Thom Smith.

These three new signings follow the announced additions of Cyle Brink, Shalva Mamukashvili, Nemani Nadolo and Zack Henry to the Tigers’ senior squad.
