New leaders in The Big Boot

Members of Uttoxeter Rugby Club have taken over top spot in The Ultimate Big Boot at Leicester Tigers.

The Ultimate Big Boot, sponsored by De Montfort University, fires balls high into the Welford Road sky for teams to attempt to catch and stake a claim to a jackpot prize which started the season at £2,000 for a cleansweep of 10 catches.

The group from Uttoxeter made six successful catches on Sunday at half-time in the Aviva Premiership fixture between Tigers and Bath Rugby to win their head to head with a team from Ashby RFC and go top of the season’s leaderboard.

Dave Rock was among the successful catchers in a Uttoxeter team made up of club players and coaches, and he said: “I think it was a fantastic effort to get six catches from the boys.

“It’s great to be on the pitch at Welford Road. We had a game yesterday in front of three men and a dog so to come here and be in front of 20,000 people is great.”

Ashby RFC’s team made three catches. Paul Cribb, a flanker at the club as well as coaching the under-10s, said: “It’s awesome to be here and be part of this. We bring the kids to get involved with the Tigers and it’s great to be involved as a local club.”

The Ultimate Big Boot is available to Tigers group bookings on matchday throughout the season. Participants must be aged 14 or over. All participants receive a Big Boot T-shirt as a souvenir. For more information, phone the Tigers Group Days team on 0116 2171 216.
