Tigers Rugby Course weeks help young players to improve their game in a safe and friendly environment and in the company of top-class coaches.
Three-day specialist coaching events for girls have been set up to run alongside Tigers Rugby Courses at Swaffham RFC in Norfolk and Sleaford RFC in Lincolnshire this summer.
Tigers community manager Scott Clarke said: "In the mini sections of clubs, mixed teams of boys and girls are allowed and encouraged, but there are no mixed games from the age of 13 and this can make it difficult in terms of finding the numbers to train together and make up a full girls’ team at a local level, and also to find competitive opponents within a convenient travelling distance.
“Many of these girls will have excelled in the minis age groups and become an integral part of their clubs, but it then becomes increasingly hard for them to continue to access the regular quality coaching they need to continue their development.
“Both Swaffham and Sleaford have provided that access and we are delighted to be running a three-day course specifically designed to give these young players a chance to work with Tigers community coaches and inspire them to achieve further success in the game.”
Each course will run from Wednesday to Friday (July 29-31 at Swaffham RFC and August 26-28 at Sleaford RFC) to focus on core skills and game understanding. Specific focus will also be given to ball retention and contact skills, along with handling and agility in the game environment.
“This will be a great opportunity for young female players to work with some of our best coaches to really improve their game and maximise the massive potential they have to play and enjoy the game of rugby," added Clarke.
Places will be limited and can be booked via the Tigers Website www.leicestertigers.com/rugbycourses
Every player will receive three days’ coaching from the Tigers community coaching team, a ticket for the first Tigers home game 2009/10 season to help celebrate the opening of the new Caterpillar Stand, as well as a Tigers rugby ball, drinks bottle and T-shirt.
