Former Leicester Tigers and All Blacks back-rower Craig Newby joined 40 teams from across the UK for the first Tigers Challenge of the season at Butlins Bognor Regis.

Welford Road favourite Newby was on hand for a presentation ceremony at the end of last weekend’s minis and juniors festival.

Around 1,500 players, coaches and parents in age groups from under-sevens to under-12s were hosted at Butlins Bognor Regis. They had the use of the resort’s facilities and took part in a series of games.

Martyn Young, director of organisers ESF events, said: “We’ve had a fantastic weekend at Tigers Challenge in Bognor Regis. The rugby was competitive, but played in a great spirit and the teams have loved the great range of facilities on offer at Butlins.

“The feedback from the clubs has been excellent with many already booked in to return in 2015.”

Tigers will stage two more Tigers Challenge events this spring, both at the Butlins resort at Minehead. A total of 80 teams and more than 3,000 players, coaches and parents will visit the resort for the second from April 25 to 28 and 110 teams and more than 4,000 players, coaches and parents will take part in the final event from May 2 to 5.
