Leicester City Council are warning motorists of extended parking restrictions which have been brought in near the Leicester Tigers rugby ground.
Despite there being double yellow lines along Tigers Way, opposite the Welford Road stadium, the grass verges beyond the lines are regularly used for overspill match day parking.
Now, the grass verges on Tigers Way have also been adopted as part of the highway, meaning cars are no longer able to park there. The decision was made following a number of complaints about vehicles churning up the grass verges
It means drivers can now face fixed penalty notices of £70 if they park on the grass verges.
Alternative parking is available at the Walkers Stadium at a cost of £5. And alternative pay and display parking is still available at Granby Halls, Almond Road, Granville Road, Castle Park and Dover Street car parks, as well as city centre multi-storey car parks at Newarke Street, East Street, St Nicholas Circle, the Haymarket, Rutland Centre and Highcross Leicester.
