Leicester Tigers are delighted to announce the renewal of their longstanding partnership with OPRO as the club’s official mouthguard supplier. The club are also excited to be able to use the cutting-edge technology of the PROTECHT system to support improvements in player welfare.
This relationship ensures Tigers continue to enjoy the assurance of OPRO’s internationally renowned, custom-made mouthguards for all players.
OPRO are dedicated to bringing leading technology and safety to athletes at all levels and are the official mouthguard partner of more than 85 teams and associations, including England Rugby, Rugby Australia, New Zealand Rugby and 11 Gallagher Premiership clubs.
They have twice received the Queen's Award for Enterprise: Innovation in recognition of their ground-breaking work in improving children’s and athletes’ protection.
The OPRO-Tigers partnership brings with it the introduction of the next generation of smart mouthguards, OPRO+, embedded with PROTECHT’s state-of-the-art sensor technology, which accurately identifies and reports all head impacts received by players in training or competitive matches.
This ground-breaking initiative, nominated in two categories in the 2020 Sports Technology Awards, will tailor training in a progressive way to move towards match demands, enabling players to safely simulate the loads and intensity of collisions.
Geordan Murphy, Leicester Tigers Director of Rugby, said: “We are very happy to extend our links with OPRO and their world-leading mouthguards.
“The need for analytics, science and data has never been more apparent to ensure the performance, safety and welfare of players and, for that reason, we are pleased to partner with Sports & Wellbeing and Analytics, who are experts in their field.”
OPRO Sports Marketing Director, Daniel Lovat, commented: “It’s a real privilege to have worked with Leicester Tigers for more than 15 years, supporting the medical team and players throughout.
“We are delighted to not only extend the partnership but introduce PROTECHT’s cutting-edge technology, embedded in our OPRO+ mouthguards, to help enhance the welfare of the players and development of the game.”
Chris Turner, CEO of Sports & Wellbeing Analytics who have developed the PROTECHT system, added: “To be working with Leicester, who are giants of the English game, is really exciting for us. We believe that the PROTECHT system can help to make the game safer and it is fantastic to be working with a club who share in our belief that player welfare should be at the forefront of how the game is developed.
“Through improving player welfare, we believe we are also able to support the team’s performance by supporting greater data-driven decision making.”
