Pietersen applauds team performance in victory

JP Pietersen says the forwards and backs combined to produce Leicester Tigers' best performance of the season so far in the 50-17 victory over Bristol Rugby.

Tigers ran in eight tries, including two for Pietersen on his return from injury, to make it back-to-back bonus-point wins in the Aviva Premiership.

“It was probably our best performance to date with the backs and the forwards executing and understanding their role in the game plan,” said Pietersen.

“Our forwards scored from lineout drives, which is always a positive for any team.

“The forwards perform and put us on the front foot, which helps our backs. The backs are smiling when the forwards are rolling and giving us go forward.”

Pietersen’s second score was a try of the season contender. A sweeping move began with Telusa Veainu making a 50m break and involved Brendon O’Connor and Owen Williams before Pietersen went over on the left for a score that has been nominated for the Citizen Try of the Week. Click here to vote.

Pietersen said: “I had to thank Telusa, that’s why I ran to him afterwards. He is a nightmare for defences, he makes it look so easy.

“Owen gave a nice pass to me. Some boys were upset outside me but it was a nice feeling to score at Welford Road.”

Tigers return to Welford Road on Friday, March 3 (7.45pm kick-off) for a crucial Aviva Premiership clash with Exeter Chiefs. Match tickets are available now on 0116 319 8888 (option 2), from the Welford Road ticket office and online by clicking here.
