Play-off secured but Tigers still have work to do

After successive away wins, Richard Cockerill says there will be no let-up in hard work and tough analysis in the build-up to the Heineken Cup quarter-final.

Leicester Tigers enjoyed a record win at Bath last weekend and followed up with a 17-13 victory at Harlequins to maintain top spot in the Aviva Premiership table on Saturday. Combined with the rest of the results in Round 19, Tigers have now guaranteed a place in the Premiership semi-finals with three games remaining.

But domestic action has to wait for another week while Tigers head for Dublin and a European quarter-final against Leinster this Saturday.

“Winning is a good habit to have but we don’t think everything is great just because we’ve got the win,” director of rugby Cockerill said after victory at The Stoop.

“We’ll have a tough review session on Monday, deal with the points and go again for next week.

“We will never fault the boys for their effort, but we didn’t have a good first half. We regrouped at half-time, we got back into it and it was good captaincy by Craig Newby to take the scrum near their line and go for it. The guys backed themselves and we got the reward.

“Then we got ahead in the game and still had to defend really well at the end to get the win.”

Tigers’ next Aviva Premiership fixture is against third-placed Gloucester at Welford Road on Saturday, April 16 (3pm). Tickets are available now.
