Mafi won the fans’ vote for February ahead of team-mates Marcos Ayerza and Manu Tuilagi.
The 21-year-old, who joined Tigers from Waratahs in Australia last summer, was ever-present during Tigers’ four games in February, displaying his versatility with performances in the second and back rows.
Tonga international Mafi was the Aviva man-of-the-match for his try-scoring display that helped Tigers to a 21-12 victory over London Wasps in the Aviva Premiership.
His contribution was recognised by the Tigers fans who voted him their Goldsmiths player of the month in an online poll.
“I was pretty surprised to win,” Mafi said. “I didn’t really know I was up for the award so I was really surprised to win.
“Manu and Marcos have been playing great rugby so it is great to win. I am really happy with how it has been going at Tigers, the supporters seem pretty happy and Cockers and Matty as well.
“I am going to dedicate it to my dad, Sosaia. He has been there every time, he has been awesome for me and very supportive.”
The player of the month award is supported by Goldsmiths, the largest prestige and luxury jewellers in the UK, who are also official East Stand sponsors and official timekeepers.
Scott Hamilton, Billy Twelvetrees, Ed Slater, George Skivington and Jordan Crane have already won the monthly award this season.
