Players choose their season's best

Sam Harrison, George Catchpole and Graham Kitchener were the winners at the Leicester Tigers Players' Awards dinner on Tuesday.Supported by Goldsmiths, the Players’ Dinner was attended by sponsors and player sponsors in the Premiership Suite at Welford Road.   Scrum-half Harrison was named Players’ Player of the Year, with Catchpole topping the vote as Players’ Young Player of the Year. Kitchener received the award for Try of the Season, as voted for by the club’s sponsors, for his score in the game away to London Welsh.   Harrison received a Rolex watch from sponsors Goldsmith and said: “I’m overwhelmed and I’d like to say thanks to all of the lads who voted for me. It is a fantastic prize too, thanks to Goldsmiths.   “We’ve got three massive games to come in the next few weeks and everyone wants to be part of that.” Also as part of the prize, Chester Barrie provide a tailormade suit for the winner’s player sponsor, Fusion Staff Agency Ltd.   Catchpole was among the key players in the club’s progress through the pool stages of the LV= Cup and he collected an Omega watch after topping the voting of his colleagues.   He said: “I’ve enjoyed my opportunities this season and this is a great reward,” he said.   As well as hearing from chief executive Simon Cohen, director of rugby Richard Cockerill and a number of the players, including Brad Thorn, Dan Cole and Ben Youngs, sponsors enjoyed a four-course meal with the first-team squad before the player awards were presented.   In thanking the sponsors, chief executive Cohen said: “As Richard Cockerill said, this is a club where everybody participates and we are very grateful for everybody’s support. The relationship with all of our sponsors is hugely important to the success of the club going forward.”   The supporters’ awards will be announced at the DX Awards Night next Tuesday (April 28).
