Tom Youngs and Fraser Balmain were the major winners at the Leicester Tigers Players' Player of the Year dinner at Welford Road on Tuesday evening.

The Tigers squad, coaching team and senior club officials joined player sponsors and guests for the event, hosted in the Premiership Suite of the Caterpillar Stand and supported by Aurum Holdings and TAG Heuer.

Youngs collected the coveted Players’ Player award after topping the votes of his colleagues in a season which has seen him establish himself in the front row for both Tigers and England following his switch from centre.

The 26-year-old Youngs has made 18 first-team appearances this season and is now approaching his 50th game for the club.

Niall Morris and Ed Slater were the other nominations for the Players’ Player vote.

Youngs received a TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre watch as his prize, presented by Robert Diver, managing director of TAG Heuer UK, and Aurum Holdings chief executive Justin Stead.

"It is a massive honour," said Youngs, who is also included in the shortlist for the supporters’ awards this season.

“I’ve had a lot of support from so many people at the club, guys like George Chuter, Richard Cockerill and Dan Cole, they have been outstanding for me and I would not be here without those guys.

“It’s been a big season and there are lots of highlights I’ll probably look back on when we get to the end of the season. But now we’re at the business end and this is what you look forward to the most.”

It was also a winning night for Tom's player sponsor, David Sleath from Agco, who received a tailormade suit from Chester Barrie of Savile Row as part of their support for the club.

Prop Balmain, 21, picked up the Players’ Young Player award, with Graham Kitchener and Sam Harrison the other nominations.

He received his prize of a TAG Heuer Aquaracer watch and said: “You look at the players who’ve won this award before and it is a great honour. I’m a bit shocked but it’s terrific.”

The Supporters’ Player of the Year Awards night is at Welford Road on Tuesday, April 30. Voting is open now. Click here for details.
