Tigers Academy head coach Jamie Taylor has spoken about the dedication of his players after their grand final success over Gloucester.

The side backed up their 2018 title with victory over the same opposition on the same ground at Allianz Park on Sunday.

But Taylor said the group have focused on more than just the title throughout the season.

“In many ways, what’s been quite challenging has been trying not to focus on winning this, but focusing on our players getting better day by day and week by week,” he told LTTV after the final whistle.

“What really matters is how well lads are getting on in the future and whether they’re pulling on a shirt playing for Geordie.

“This is just a nice little thing that’s happened at the end of the last two seasons.”

Taylor was also quick to praise his side’s defensive effort in the final quarter of the game. His side led 24-0 at half time and weathered late Gloucester pressure to win the match 34-31.

“If you look at the last defensive set and the effort that those boys put in, the line speed, getting up off the floor, going again and again and again, that hopefully sums up what we are about in the Academy and what they are about as a group.

“At no point during the game was anybody giving any less than their absolute all.”
