Potential away tie in Heineken Cup semi-finals

Leicester Tigers have been handed a potential Heineken Cup semi-final trip to face Cardiff Blues or Toulouse if they can overcome Bath Rugby in the last eight.

The semi-final draw was made at Murrayfield this afternoon, attended by representatives of all eight clubs, including backs coach Matt O’Connor and centre Seru Rabeni from Tigers.

The draw was conducted by ERC chairman Jean-Pierre Lux and Edinburgh 09 Heineken Cup Final ambassador Scott Hastings, the former Scotland international centre. Ieuan Evans acted as MC, with Scottish Rugby chairman Allan Munro and ERC chief executive Derek McGrath also in attendance.

The quarter-finals feature three Guinness Premiership clubs, with Harlequins joining Tigers and Bath in the draw, plus two from Ireland, two from Wales and one from France.

While Tigers face a potential trip to Wales or France, Munster or Ospreys will have home country advantage in the other semi-final against either Harlequins or Leinster.

The semi-finals will be played on the weekend of May 1/2/3 at venues selected by ERC.

The clubs drawn out of the hat first have the advantage of playing in their own country, but not on their own ground.

The Heineken Cup Final will be played at Murrayfield on Saturday, May 23 (5.00pm).
