Teams from Bicester, Bournville, Hinckley, Nuneaton, Pinley, Stafford, Trentham, Veseyans and hosts Tamworth took part in the final Prima Tiger Cup’s final festival of the season was hosted at Tamworth RFC on Sunday, January 19.
Supported by Prima Solutions of Loughborough, the Prima Tiger Cup is an under-10s event open to all clubs with the opportunity to play at Welford Road, home of the Leicester Tigers.
Celebrating its 25th year last year, the Prima Tiger Cup features four festivals covering the Tigers academy region and beyond. Throughout these festivals Tigers look to identify clubs who demonstrate the true ethos of the game under our event criteria in keeping with the RFU Age Grade Rules and guidelines.
After the original festival planned for October was postponed due to waterlogged pitches, the festival was rescheduled for January, ahead of the invitational festivals which welcomes selected team back to play at Welford Road.
Players also had the chance to meet Tigers back-row Guy Thompson, who was watching on the sidelines and had pictures with the teams taking part. Tigers visitors in previous festivals have included Jaco Taute at Diss, Sam Harrison at Leicester Forest and Jordan Coghlan at Mellish.
The teams from the Tamworth festival who have been invited back are Trentham and Bournville in the Cup, Bicester and Nuneaton in the Bowl and Tamworth and Stafford in the Prima Tiger Shield.
The Welford Road festivals will take place at Gallagher Premiership home games against Wasps (February 15) and Worcester (February 29) before the Celebration Day planned to be played at the Sale Sharks match on Sunday, April 26.
Attracting more than 70 entries each season, the Prima Tiger Cup is the largest and most prestigious single age-group playing opportunity in the rugby calendar.
