Under-10s teams from Ipswich, Leamington, Oadby Wyggestonians, Oakham, Old Coventrians, Newark, Sutton Coldfield and Wymondham were all involved in the last eight at Welford Road on Saturday.
Their games had been due to kick off before Leicester Tigers’ Aviva Premiership Rugby clash with Newcastle Falcons but, with teams clearing Welford Road of snow to ensure the first-team game went ahead, they were delayed until after the final whistle.
Scott Clarke, Tigers community manager, said: “Congratulations to the squads, parents and organisers for making it to Welford Road and dealing with the issues the adverse weather conditions presented. Everybody involved was a credit to their club."
Hundreds of spectators watched as Oakham, Old Coventrians, Sutton Coldfield and Wymondham booked their place in the semi-finals, which will be played at Welford Road before Tigers take on Benetton Treviso in the Heineken Cup on the weekend of January 22, 2011.
Clarke said: “A lot of season ticket holders and regular supporters who watched the games were impressed with the quality, commitment and enthusiasm on display.”
The Prima Tiger Cup is supported by Loughborough-based Prima Solutions. It is now in its 17th season and is open to under-10s teams from across the country. More information is available by clicking here
