Saturday is a big day for the players, coaches and supporters of the under-10s teams from across the Midlands competing in the semi-finals of the Prima Tiger Cup.
Market Harborough, Wolverhampton, Nottingham and Silhillians will contest the last-four stage of this season’s tournament after coming through regional festivals and the quarter-finals.
Already buoyed by getting this far from an entry of more than 50 clubs, the final four will have the backing of large groups of their own supporters, as well as those arriving early for the Guinness Premiership match between league leaders Leicester Tigers and Gloucester Rugby.
Wolverhampton Under-10s coach Matthew Hall said: “It’s a club day out and we have more than 100 supporters making the trip. To get to see children from the club playing at Welford Road is great for everybody involved and it’s great to support them.”
Wolverhampton face Market Harborough whose head coach Graham Cook said: “We’ve had a great response from parents and it should be a great club occasion.”
The day’s second semi-final sees former Prima Tiger Cup champions Nottingham take on Solihull side Silhillians.
Dave Tanner, Silhillians lead coach, said: “To be a nine-year-old playing in front of that kind of crowd is fantastic - some adults never get that opportunity.”
Katie Roberts, manager of Nottingham Under-10s, added: “The opportunity that the Prima Tiger Cup gives the players at their age is brilliant. It gives them a taste of something that they can maybe aspire to. At the same time, it is a great day out.”
The Prima Tiger Cup is supported by Loughborough-based Prima Solutions and is open to under-10s teams from across the country.
The Prima Tiger Cup action kick-off at 1pm at Welford Road, with Tigers versus Gloucester to follow at 3pm. Tickets are available now, call the Tigers ticket office on 0844 856 1880, book online and collect on the day, or call in at Welford Road.
