Prima Cup to welcome back junior clubs

The 28th season of the Prima Tiger Cup has already provided a great showcase for the game of rugby and its values during festivals across the Tigers region.

Thank you to our host clubs and to all of the players, coaches, parents and supporters from more than 40 teams of under-10s girls and boys who entered the festivals throughout November.

Using the Tigers Fair Play Scoring system, a number of clubs have been invited to participate in further Prima Tiger Cup events at Mattioli Woods Welford Road on the day of a first-team fixture in the new year. Names have also been drawn from a hat from the scheduled Syston event which unfortunately had to be cancelled after the hard frost and snow of the final festival weekend.

We are also extremely grateful for the continued support of John Norman and the team at Prima Solutions, who have backed the event since its inception almost three decades ago and seen thousands of young players from hundreds of clubs enjoy the chance to come together and play the game.

Our new year of Prima Tiger Cup action kicked off at Lichfield RFC at the start of November, with further festivals scheduled at Newark, Holt and Syston rugby clubs covering teams throughout the Tigers region.

As well as the under-10s action on the pitches, each festival featured a visit from Tigers players, with Hanro Liebenberg following the likes of Dan Lancaster, Jonny Law, Sam Edwards, Jacob Cusick and Archie Vanes in monitoring the action and offering encouragement to young players from the sidelines over the last month.

Those players all took their own opening steps in the game in age-group games and several of them who came through the Tigers academy played in the Prima Tiger Cup for their junior clubs.

We look forward to welcoming all of those teams for their day at the Tigers stadium on weekends in February and March, together with the annual Celebration Day later in the season.
