A new season of the Prima Tiger Cup for under-10s teams opened with a festival at Tamworth RFC on Sunday.

The Prima Tigers Cup, sponsored by Prima Solutions of Loughborough, is a free-to-enter contact-based tournament scheduled to run over five festivals covering the Tigers Academy region and beyond, with the opportunity to play at Welford Road in the later stages.

Teams from Ashby, Broadstreet, Bromsgrove, Claverdon, Dronfield, Dudley Kingswinford, Lichfield, Moseley, Newcastle, Old Coventrians, Old Yardleians, Olney, Rotherham, Sandbach, Stoke, Sutton Coldfield, Tamworth and Wolverhampton took part in the first festival of the season.

Old Coventrians, Olney and Lichfield have been invited back to play in the Prima Tiger Cup qualifiers at Welford Road later this year, while Sandbach secured a place in the Prima Tiger Bowl qualifiers. Rotherham and Broadstreet have booked their places in the Prima Tiger Shield, also to be played at Welford Road, home of the Leicester Tigers.

Tigers hooker Neil Briggs was on hand too to watch the action and encourage the teams.

Attracting more than 70 entries each season, the Prima Tiger Cup is the largest and most prestigious single age-group competition in the rugby calendar. Festival dates for 2014/15 are confirmed and we are still welcoming entries from teams. The remaining festival dates are:

Swaffham RFC – October 26
Lutterworth RFC – November 2
Mellish RFC – November 9
Newmarket RFC – November 16
