Hundreds of under-10s players from across the Midlands took part in festivals at Lutterworth RFC and Stoke RFC yesterday and produced some thrilling games despite the difficult conditions.
Scott Clarke, Tigers community manager, said: “The festivals were played in difficult conditions but that didn’t dampen any of the enthusiasm.
“Everyone gave their all, the standard of play was very high and the festivals were played in a very good spirit.”
Teams from Market Harborough, Old Leamingtonians, Old Silhillians, Stoke and Wolverhampton rugby clubs qualified for the knockout stages, which will be held at Welford Road later this season.
The rest of the quarter-final line-up will be decided this weekend when teams from Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire compete in their festival at Mellish RFC and Eastern Counties sides meet at Swaffham RFC.
The first set of quarter-finals will be held at Welford Road before Tigers play Clermont Auvergne in the Heineken Cup on Saturday, December 19. The second set will be played before the Guinness Premiership game with London Wasps on Saturday, January 9.
Now in its 15th year the Prima Tiger Cup is supported by Loughborough-based Prima Solutions. Last year more than 700 children took part with Stratford-upon-Avon the eventual winners.
