Leicester Tigers welcomed the players, coaches and supporters of under-10s teams from around the region for Finals Day in the Prima Tiger Cup, Bowl and Shield on Saturday. The teams followed in the footsteps of rugby legends at Welford Road on the same day as the Aviva Premiership victory over Exeter Chiefs.   Now more than 20 years old, the Prima Tiger Cup is supported by Prima Solutions of Loughborough and is open to under-10s teams from across the country.   This year more than 70 teams played in the regional tournaments in the biggest-ever Prima Tiger Cup and many of them have since been invited to Welford Road to showcase their skills ahead of a first-team game.   Welford Road welcomed teams from Haywards Heath, Lichfield, Market Harborough, Old Coventrians, Old Leamingtonians, Olney, Scunthorpe and Southwold for the Prima Tiger Cup qualifiers, with Olney and Market Harborough playing again in the Prima Tiger Cup Final.   Finals day kicked off with the Prima Tiger Shield event, with Hinckley securing the trophy in a Leicestershire derby against Leicester Forest.   Buckingham and Silhillians then contested the Prima Tiger Bowl Final, with Buckingham coming through to take the trophy.   In the showpiece climax to Finals Day, Olney and Market Harborough produced a thrilling encounter in the Prima Tiger Cup Final and with each team scoring once the teams shared the title as 2015 champions.   The presentations were staged on the Tigers pitch in front of a 24,000 sell-out crowd at half-time in the Aviva Premiership match and Tigers star Manu Tuilagi handed over the silverware, accompanied by John Norman, managing director of Prima Solutions.   Danny Adamson, Olney under-10s coach, said: “A huge thank-you and well done for a tremendous festival.   “Everyone we spoke to said how professionally-run the event was and how incredibly generous it was to allow the lads to play on the main pitch and get out there again at half-time.   “You created a wonderful atmosphere where everyone was welcome and all had a great day – win or lose. Your refs were spot-on too, which again is very much appreciated.   “Olney were chuffed to run out joint winners with Market Harborough. They are our nearest and dearest rivals, for whom we have a great deal of respect. Thank you again.”   For more information about the Prima Tiger Cup, Bowl and Shield and how to get involved in next year’s competition, please email [email protected] In the meantime, young players can develop their game under the eyes of Tigers coaches at a Tigers Rugby Camps throughout the region.
