Pupils take a bite out of Healthy schools

Leicester Tigers and club partner Global Payments have been visiting primary schools across Leicestershire teaching youngsters about the importance of a healthy diet.

Global Payments Healthy Schools is a free week-long programme to engage and educate pupils on the importance of healthy eating and living.

Leicester Tigers health officer Ashleigh Theobald has led the programme since its launch in February earlier this year. Hosting school assemblies, individual lessons and practical PE sessions, pupils also work their way through a 'Healthy Schools' booklet.

One of the eleven schools involved with Healthy Schools to date is Glebelands Primary School who we visited last month to see how they were getting on. See some of our favourites snaps of the pupils in action in our gallery above.

Ashleigh said: “We’ve experienced a great start to the programme, with kids really engaging with the programme and enjoying both the theory and practical lessons.

“What’s great is that we’ve been able to work with some of the teachers in lessons to get the best out of the kids and are already looking into how we can progress the programme next year.

“At each of the schools we’ve visited, we’ve elected two ‘Healthy Schools’ champions who will be joining us at Welford Road on the pitch when Tigers play Northampton Saints and Newcastle Falcons later this month. It’s just a great way to reward their hard work.”
