Rabeni keen to repay the faith

Tigers wing Seru Rabeni may have enjoyed his first taste of success with the club in Saturday's Guinness Premiership Final triumph over Gloucester, but the Fijian insists he is now totally focused on achieving more of the same against London Wasps this weekend.

Rabeni, who has endured a torrid time with injuries since making his Leicester debut in September 2004, dedicated his performance in the win over the Cherry and Whites to all those people who have stuck by him during the past three seasons.

"Saturday was good for the supporters, good for the club and hopefully we can finish well on Sunday," said Rabeni, who was among the stars of Tigers' 44-16 victory at Twickenham. "For me personally, I was just so excited to be involved. I think I owe a lot to Pat for trusting me and to the club for keeping me here even though I've been out with a lot of injuries.

"It's a good way to repay the faith of the supporters who have been here with me throughout the bad times. The supporters and the team have kept me on track and kept me upbeat. When you've been out with injury and haven't been playing, then the club could have gone for another player, but they showed faith in me and helped me and I now have the chance to pay them back for what they have done for me."

Despite the impressive nature of the win against Gloucester, Rabeni sees little relation between that game and the Heineken Cup Final on Sunday.

"I don't think Saturday's game will have any bearing on next weekend. The Guinness Premiership Final is done now. Sunday is a totally new game and it's against different opposition. Whoever turns up on the day will win. We have to go back to the drawing board, see what we did wrong and then hopefully we can turn up and perform on Sunday."

Rabeni has also dismissed talk of how much a treble-winning season would mean to the club, suggesting that he and his team-mates will be concentrating on the match itself.

"We will be going for the win - if the win comes then the treble comes on the back of it, but if we start thinking about the treble, then the win won't be there. We have to secure the win. It's a one-off game and we won't be thinking about the treble at all. It doesn't matter if we win by one point or by 40 points, just as long as we win. At Leicester, every game play, we want to win and that's our mentality and focus."

Thankfully for Tigers, it's a similar story with regard to possible World Cup inclusion ahead of the tournament in France this autumn.

"I haven't looked beyond this week. I'll be able to discuss my World Cup ambitions after Sunday but my mindset is all about this weekend. After that, I can see what the World Cup holds me. If I'm playing well for Leicester, hopefully that will help, but now I'm totally focused on the Heineken Cup."
