Round 19 Reaction: Richard Wigglesworth

Richard Wigglesworth highlighted the squad-wide effort following his side’s 48-27 victory over Bath Rugby at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.

Speaking after the bonus-point win, which included six tries from his side, the Leicester Tigers Interim Head Coach said: “It was a little bit easier on the heart towards the end than the last few weeks.”

“There were 23 guys today who gave their absolutely everything out there and delivered that result.

“I was really happy with the first 40 minutes, really happy with a lot of stuff in that period.

“We dipped a bit but what was great to see was the way we got back to putting them under pressure and finished the game off.

“We don’t have the biggest squad at the moment, with plenty away and several sidelined, but each of the players are contributing and we’re getting results from that hard work."

Tigers came into Round 19 chasing a third successive Gallagher Premiership win for the first time this season after back-to-back victories over Saracens and London Irish.

When asked about the “momentum building” in Leicester, Wigglesworth said: “To be honest, I’m not a big believer in momentum as the last game doesn’t do anything towards the next one.”

“It’s about turning up during the week and doing the right things, doing the hard work and preparing properly for the next game.

“That is what these players have done this week, preparing for today, and deserve to enjoy the result they earned.”

While only nine points separate 3rd and 9th on the Premiership ladder and Tigers have just four fixtures remaining in their league campaign, Wigglesworth said neither the table or draw were being discussed at the club.

“It’s just the next game, that’s all we’re looking at,” he said.

“All we are trying to do is win the next one. That’s it.”

Leicester Tigers travel to Gloucester in Round 20 of the 2022/23 Gallagher Premiership season.
