Ford focused on further improvement from Tigers

George Ford admits there was a feeling of enjoyment in the away changing room at Sixways following the away win over Worcester Warriors at Sixways.

However, speaking pitch side at full-time, the Tigers fly-half was quick to admit there were still areas which needed improving from the Leicester squad.

“We enjoyed it out there today; weather is good, pitch is fast and we played some enjoyable rugby,” Ford said.

“What we enjoyed was that we are getting reward for hard work we have put in.

“But, looking back at the performance and we left points out there on the pitch in not converting chances we created and put ourselves under pressure in defence with some ill-discipline.

“Yes, it’s a win and we will enjoy that but we have to get back in next week and improve again.”

Ford, and later Freddie Burns, contributed points to the Tigers tally from fly-half in the bonus-point win, guiding the side around the pitch on the way to the 45-point victory.

“We as backs are very fortunate to be behind a pack doing some good things up front for us, especially in the set-piece,” said the Tigers fly-half.

“It is our job to make the most of those chances they are working hard to get us, it’s very much a squad effort across the pitch.

“We want to deliver 80 minute performances and, today, we kept going from kick off until full time.”

Quizzed on the expectations now being placed on the Leicester squad, the Tigers No.10 was quick to put to bed any talk of he and his team-mates looking anywhere else except inwards.

“The only expectation we have, the only expectation we talk about is what we have on ourselves to work hard and improve,” he said.

“That’s what we want as a squad, not just the guys who get the privilege to represent Leicester Tigers on the weekend.

“There is good competition, which is growing every week, and we need to keep getting better … it’s a big challenge next week at home against Sale Sharks.”

Ford and his club-mates had the thousands of travelling Leicester Tigers fans on their feet throughout the fixture, who he says are a motivating factor for the group in every game.

“It was a great to hear and see, we are very fortunate to have them back in the stands,” replied Ford.

“They turn up for us and we want to put performances in they can be proud of each weekend, home or away.”
