Leicester Tigers head coach, Dan McKellar spoke to media following the club’s 35-26 win over DHL Stormers in round one of the Investec Champions Cup.

Tigers bagged a bonus-point despite a disappointing first half.

“It’s important we reflect on tonight and review our preparation, players and staff, understanding that we were out-enthused in that first half,” McKellar said.

“Saying that, we’re reviewing a bonus-point win against a team that threw the kitchen sink at us for 80 minutes so it’s pleasing we adapted at halftime, and found a way to win the game.

“Half-time was important for us as coaches to just reinforce what our standards are around effort and enthusiasm.

“As a coach, you accept mistakes but getting outworks is not something we accept and the players showed character to respond the way they did in that second half.”

Despite the mixed performance, Tigers took maximum points from the opening round fixture, a crucial bonus-point given the quality opposition in Tigers’ group.

“It’s going to be tight,” he admitted.

“I said during the week, this competition, playing in these games, preparing for teams like Stade Francais; it’s why you come to work every day.

“So yes, there are areas that we were disappointed in and we will review that game honestly but we’ll go to Paris next week excited for the challenge.
