Leicester Tigers Head of Women’s Rugby Vicky Macqueen praised her side for their second-half effort away to Kenilworth in Round 8 of the Women’s Championship North league.
Vicky Macqueen praised her side for their second-half effort away to Kenilworth on Saturday afternoon, to securing a bonus-point victory and continue the unbeaten run in this season’s Women’s Championship North.
The Leicester Tigers Head of Women’s Rugby was blunt in her appraisal of the team’s first-half effort but couldn’t hide her delight at their response in the second, which saw five tries scored to finish 39-5 winners.
“It was a game of two halves,” said Macqueen.
“We weren’t at the races in the first half, not quite firing on all cylinders but was really impressed by the way we were able to turn it around in the second-half.
“But, credit to Kenilworth. I thought the way they played in the first-half forced us into playing in our own end and put us under pressure in attack and defence.
Asked about what pleased her most, Macqueen said: “It was all there in the tank but there were some details that weren’t working and we made those points together at half-time, which got a response and I was really proud of that.”
“The best teams get results even when they aren’t performing as well as they can … they find a way to win.
“The girls could have gone further into a hole today but didn’t, they addressed the issues on-field and I am really proud of the change in mindset.”
Unbeaten after eight rounds, the Tigers Women’s boss was adamant that the squad would not be letting any complacency slip in to the programme.
“We are never going to be complacent and talk about it a lot as a group,” Macqueen said.
“No side is going to roll over and we need to keep improving, we want to keep getting better and growing as a team.
“Our performances have put a target on our backs and that’s great.”
