Record score in The Ultimate Big Boot

A group from Old Laurentians RFC in Rugby set a record score in The Ultimate Big Boot on Sunday to take over at the top of the season’s leaderboard.

Sponsored by De Montfort University, the Ultimate Big Boot allows groups to show their skills in front of a big Tigers crowd, challenging them to catch balls fired high into the sky as part of the half-time entertainment.

Old Laurentians set a new benchmark with eight catches, but only after their head-to-head rivals from Market Harborough RUFC had equalled the season’s best score with seven catches on a day affected by cold and snow.

Josh Russell was among the Laurentians group and said: "It feels awesome to get the top score. It was cold and wet out there and the Big Boot machine was struggling to get the balls high but we kept our eyes on the ball and we’ve been told that’s the best score so we’re really pleased.”

There is an Ultimate Big Boot jackpot prize for any team that can claim a full set of 10 catches, starting at £2,000.

David Henderson was part of the Market Harborough group and said: “We managed to match what we got last year, even though we couldn’t really feel our hands in the cold! So it was a good effort by the team.”

They levelled previous leaders Lincoln RFC who made seven catches during half-time in the match against Gloucester back in September.

The Ultimate Big Boot is available to Tigers group bookings. Participants must be aged 14 or over. All participants receive a Big Boot T-shirt as a souvenir. For more information, phone the Tigers Group Days team on 0116 2171 216.
