Tigers to meet Clermont in Euro knockout

Leicester Tigers will play ASM Clermont Auvergne over home-and-away legs in the last 16 of the Heineken Champions Cup.

At the conclusion of the pool stages, Tigers finished as top seeds in Pool B, with the eight highest-ranked teams from each of the two pools qualifying for the knockout stages of European rugby’s premier club tournament which begin with a Round of 16 staged on a two-legged basis.

Clubs that finished in the top four of each pool – including Tigers – play the away leg first on the weekend of April 9 and are then at home on the weekend of April 16 with the winners determined by the aggregate scores over the back-to-back games.

Three-time European Cup finalists Clermont Auvergne’s eighth-place finish in Pool A was confirmed by the result of the last of the pool stage games when Montpellier beat Exeter Chiefs to go leap over their French rivals and push Glasgow out of the qualifying places.

In the pool stages, Clermont recorded a home win over Sale Sharks in Round 3 after their first meeting was cancelled and they were narrowly beaten home and away by Ulster.

Details of fixture dates and times of the Round of 16 will be confirmed by tournament organisers EPCR following consultation with their broadcast partners.

Match ticket details, plus matchday travel and parking, will be confirmed soon by the Tigers ticket office.

Season tickets and match tickets purchased for the Tigers game against Bordeaux-Bègles which was cancelled on Saturday will have their tickets transferred to the Round of 16.

This fixture will be loaded on to season ticket cards while match tickets for the Bordeaux game will be valid for us at the Round of 16 encounter.

For information on matchday hospitality packages, phone the sales team on 0116 2171 215.

The winners of this Round of 16 tie will then play at home against Leinster or Connacht in the quarter-finals.
