RWC day 9: Mauger off the mark

Aaron Mauger scored two tries on his first starting appearance at the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France as New Zealand passed the century mark in the game against Portugal.

The All Blacks beat minnows Portugal 108-13, scoring 16 tries along the way.

Seru Rabeni, Leicester Tigers' first scorer of the tournament after he touched down for Fiji in the 35-31 defeat of Japan in midweek, retains his place at centre for the game against Canada on Sunday.

Martin Corry and Ben Kay were in England's starting XV beaten by South Africa on Friday night, when Lewis Moody and George Chuter both came off the bench in the second half.

Dan Hipkiss, who had been ill in the build-up to the game, had recovered enough to join the rest of the England party on the touchline and will now be hoping for his first call-up of the tournament.

That defeat means the clash with Samoa next weekend becomes a must-win if England are to reach the quarter-final stages.

Samoa have named Alesana Tuilagi on the wing as they look for their first win against Pacific Nations rivals Tonga on Sunday.
