Same old Leicester, says Abraham

Luke Abraham says he was impressed with Leicester Tigers after their 38-3 win over Lyon at Welford Road.

Tigers ran in five tries through Scott Hamilton (2), James Grindal, Anthony Allen and Thomas Waldrom against their French Top 14 opponents in a pre-season fixture on Saturday.

And Abraham, who made 52 first-team appearances for Tigers after graduating from the club Academy, backed Tigers to overcome the absence of World Cup internationals and says others will take the chance to stake their claim for a shirt.

“They put in a good performance,” Abraham said. “There are a few games before the World Cup players return and, traditionally, in these sorts of periods Leicester have done well.

“There has always been competition for places and people have always stepped up in these periods – I can’t imagine it being any different.

“It is a well organised team, well coached and they will soldier on as they always do.”

Abraham led Lyon out at Welford Road before limping out of the action shortly after half-time. The 27-year-old was given a warm reception and afterwards he paid tribute to the Tigers support.

“The fans have always been great here at Leicester and always very supportive,” said Abraham. “It’s great that some of them still give me a clap when I come here in different colours.”
