Senior scrum-halves set a high bar, says Tresidder

George Tresidder says his game is improving all the time from working alongside the club's senior scrum-halves.

Tresidder is set to feature for the Leicester Tigers in Saturday's Aviva Premiership Rugby Sevens at Darlington’s Northern Echo Arena.

Tigers, last season’s runners-up in the competition, face London Welsh, Newcastle Falcons and Sale Sharks in their Group D fixtures.

Scrum-half Tresidder, who featured in the sevens last season as an Academy player, says the input from Ben Youngs, David Mele and Sam Harrison is proving invaluable in his development.

“Everyone is very helpful,” he said. “If the scrum-halves above me – Ben Youngs, Sam Harrison and David Mele – see where I am going wrong they will be the first ones to show me how to improve or how to do something.

"There’s excellence all around you. They set a very high bar, which is important for any young rugby player.”

The sevens squad will be coached for a second year by Geordan Murphy and is due to be announced on Thursday lunch time.

And 19-year-old Tresidder says last year’s competition provided priceless experience, not least of playing in front of large crowds and a TV audience.

“Once you get there the pressure is on to perform with big crowds and the TV there,” he said. “I was there last year and it was the biggest crowd I had been in front of.

“You want to perform and make your team proud.”

The action gets underway at 7.15pm and is live on BT Sport.

Tickets are available priced £10 adults and concessions and £5 for under-16s on 0871 2266060, and from the Newcastle Falcons and Darlington Mowden Park ticket offices.
