Sevens comeback pleases skipper

George Catchpole says the Leicester Tigers players can take confidence from the way they bounced back from an opening-match defeat to book their place in Friday's Premiership Rugby Sevens Series Finals.

"It was close and I think all the teams played well, but we're really pleased to get through," said captain Catchpole after Tigers qualified from Group D with wins over London Welsh and Sale Sharks on Saturday evening.

Tigers now face Cardiff Blues in the opening quarter-final this Friday at The Twickenham Stoop, home of Harlequins.

"It's good for the young guys to put on the Tigers shirt and play on live television, so we're really chuffed that it's going to carry on at The Stoop,” added Catchpole, an England Under-20 international.

"It gave us massive confidence to come back after the first game. We didn't really find our stride against Newcastle, but as the tournament went on we found our feet a bit better and that showed with a really convincing win in the end."

Catchpole was a member of the Tigers squad that enjoyed a run to the final of last summer’s tournament and hopes for another good run.

“There will be pressure on us to do the same again and we’re going to do all we can to get there,” he said.

Tigers face the Blues in the opening quarter-final at 6pm on Friday, with Harlequins, Gloucester, London Irish, Newcastle Falcons, Newport Gwent Dragons and Northampton Saints the other qualifiers.

Kick-off against Cardiff Blues is at 6pm. Official face value tickets for an evening of 10 matches are available at StubHub.co.uk
