Sevens is a great opportunity, says Catchpole

George Catchpole says the Leicester Tigers sevens squad will be determined to grab their chance when they run out in from of the BT Sport TV cameras on Saturday night (7.15pm).

Catchpole captains Tigers in their Premiership Rugby Sevens Pool D fixtures at Darlington’s Northern Echo Arena. They take on London Welsh, Newcastle Falcons and Sale Sharks.

The 20-year-old was part of the Tigers squad that finished runners-up in last season’s competition, a tournament that saw then trailist Blaine Scully emerge to claim a place in the first-team squad.

And Catchpole, who was part of the England Under-20s squad that landed the World Junior Championship in New Zealand in the summer,  says the Tigers players will be aiming to make their own impressions.

“We are all really looking forward to it,” he said. “It’s live on television and it’s a big deal.

“It’s a chance to wear the shirt and get out there and really show what we can do.

“There is all to play for. Last year we went in as underdogs, as we do most years, and we got to the final.

“Playing well in a big tournament like this can be an indication of raw rugby talent and the guys can’t wait to get out there.”
