Shalva shares big stage with clubmates

Shalva Mamukashvili will come up against two of his Leicester Tigers team-mates when Georgia face England at Twickenham on Saturday.

Hooker Mamukashvili only made his Tigers debut in Round 21 of last season in the trip to Bristol but will make his 76th Test appearances for the Lelos this weekend in direct opposition to club colleagues Ellis Genge and Ben Youngs.

Head coach Levan Maisashvili named his team on Thursday afternoon for the opening game in the Autumn Nations Cup and only the third clash with England following meetings in Georgia’s first-ever Rugby World Cup fixture back in 2003 and again in New Zealand at the 2011 tournament.

Georgia’s last game was in defeat to Scotland at Murrayfield on October 23, when Mamukashvili started among the replacements, but the follow-up fixture against Russia was cancelled in Tbilisi.

Lelos captain Merab Sharikadze, who lines up at centre, is a former team-mate of Genge and fellow England forward Jonny Hill at Hartpury College.

Genge and Youngs start for England.
