This Sunday (September 10) marks the exact date of the 125th anniversary of the first match played at Welford Road.

After purchasing the land between Welford Road and Aylestone Road in March 1892, Leicester Tigers played their first match on the new pitch on September 10, beating a Leicestershire XV 17-0.

The tiered seating from the club’s previous home at Belgrave Road was installed and £1,100 was spent on the levelling, drainage and preparing the new playing area.

To celebrate this occasion, Tigers will be sharing old photos and memorabilia from Welford Road over the years across its social media channels with #Welford125 …and we want to hear from you!

We’re asking fans to join in with #Welford125 this Sunday.

Share your favourite old photos or comments on your first experience of Welford Road. Or simply tell us about a favourite moment at the stadium. You can tweet, post or write to us across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the #Welford125 hashtag.

The club will also share a collection of photos this weekend from famous moments to glimpses of Welford Road you may never have seen before.

Tigers are planning a number of events throughout the season to celebrate 125 years of rugby at Welford Road, including a special season-long series Welford Road Revisited interviews on the club’s LTTV channel.
