Shock call-up caps memorable spell for prop

Ellis Genge says his England call-up for the summer has come "out of the blue" after four months on loan at Leicester Tigers.

The 21-year-old loosehead prop only made his first Aviva Premiership start in the Round 22 trip to Bath but has made enough of an impact to be included in the summer squads named by national head coach Eddie Jones.

“I’ve learned so much in the last four months,” said Genge who played age-group rugby with England up to the under-20s in his time with Bristol.

“I just wanted to come to Leicester and train and learn off the boys. I just wanted to be a bag holder for a few months and learn – but it has come very quickly. I’m just keen to learn and listen from the other guys.”

Genge joins Tigers colleagues Ben Youngs, Manu Tuilagi and Dan Cole in the squads selected for the match against Wales next weekend and then the tour to Australia.
