Sione sets new mark for successive matches

Sione Kalamafoni’s consistency has landed him a place in the Leicester Tigers record books.

Tonga international Kalamafoni started his 28th consecutive game in Premiership Rugby at No8 during Saturday’s win over Wasps at Welford Road to overtake the previous best mark in a single shirt held jointly by Darren Garforth and Joel Stransky.

Kalamafoni, who joined Tigers from Gloucester in the summer of 2017, also tops the stats across the league for carries and stands second in the number of tackles made.

Behind Garforth and Stransky’s mark of 27 consecutive games, Martin Johnson (22), Pat Howard (22) and Ben Youngs (21) are among the other leaders in the stats for consecutive Premiership games played in the same shirt, as recorded by statistician Stuart Farmer.

For a shirt-by-shirt guide to record-holders in the Tigers team, see the match programme for the home game against Northampton Saints on Friday, March 22. Match tickets are available now.
