Ed Slater expects the return fixture between Leicester Tigers and Munster Rugby to be "another huge challenge" at Welford Road on Sunday.Tigers secured a 31-19 victory on Munster territory at Thomond Park in the third round of the European Champions Cup season, but skipper Slater says the rematch will be another huge contest in the second half of the back-to-back fixtures.
“Munster are a great side, Thomond Park is an extremely difficult place to go and win, so we’re really proud that we’ve been able to do it,” said Slater.
“But the pool’s not finished and I’m sure Munster are going to come and give us a massive challenge at Welford Road.”
Vereniki Goneva, Mike Fitzgerald and Ben Youngs scored the tries as Tigers won in Limerick, but the visitors had to weather a storm at the start of each half before claiming the points and a third successive win in Pool 4.
“At the start of the game Munster were in control and we were on the back foot a little bit,” Slater said.
“Then Niki got his try and we managed to pull ourselves back into it. Then the second half started the same again, they get the try and clawed their way back into the game, Marcos Ayerza got a yellow card and it could’ve gone either way, so it was a real positive to come out of that.
“When Ben Youngs went over, it galvanised us and probably brought our confidence back up.
“I’m sure it will sink in during the next couple of days how big an achievement it is to win here, but we can’t rest on our laurels, it’s another massive game next weekend.”
Tickets for Sunday’s game are available now. Book in person at Welford Road, phone 0116 319 8888 (option 2) or click here to book online. Welford Road hosts the Tigers Christmas market from 2.15pm with stalls and activities for supporters and kick-off is at 5.15pm.
