Tigers wing Smith has played a key role for the club this season, appearing in every game in the opening five months of the campaign and scoring three tries.
The 23-year-old has been selected in the England Saxons squad for the game against Portugal at Edgeley Park on Friday, January 30 (kick-off 8pm).
He joins Tigers teammates Dan Cole, Jordan Crane, Ben Woods and England Elite Player Squad member Harry Ellis, whose last game for Tigers was in the Heineken Cup against Perpignan at the Stade Aime Giral.
Saxons head coach Lancaster told the rfu.com podcast: “Matt thoroughly deserves his chance. He is a great example of someone who has come through the Academy system.
"He has played in National One with Nottingham. He spent a season there, came back to Leicester and he has been a virtual ever-present in the Leicester side, keeping out the likes of (Alesana) Tuilagi.
“I think this is a great opportunity for him.”
Lancaster added: “Harry Ellis gets an opportunity to get some game time. The senior coaches are quite keen to see him play.”
