Ollie Smith was delighted to play his part in an entertaining win for Leicester Tigers at Worcester on Saturday, especially after setting up the opening score in the EDF Energy Cup clash. Having spent his summer on the other side of the world, Smith is now making an impression far closer to home.

"We went out there with the intention of looking for a bonus-point win and as we scored so early that opened the game up even more because Worcester came out to attack," said Smith, who teamed up with Daryl Gibson in midfield as Tigers won 35-20 to secure their place in the competition's semi-finals for a second successive season.

"It made for an entertaining game, and an excellent game to be involved in as a player," added Smith.

The England and Lions centre made the crucial run to set up Johne Murphy for the opening try, helping the young Irishman to net his second touchdown in just three senior starts for the club.

With Tigers trailing to an early James Brown penalty, it was Smith who carved out the opening for Murphy to set the ball rolling on the Tigers half of the scoreboard.

"When I took the ball, we were running out of room a bit on the left so I ran back towards our guys on my right and it worked," said Smith.

"I would obviously love to get on the scoresheet myself but if I can help someone else score then that's just as good. They had some dangerous players in their own backline so our defence had to stand up to it too. It's another win and another bonus point so we can take plenty of positives out of it."
