The visit of world champions South Africa to Leicester Tigers on November 6 is a 24,000 sell-out.

The last remaining tickets for the meeting of the defending Guinness Premiership champions and the 2007 Rugby World Cup winners to officially open the new 10-000-seat Caterpillar Stand at Welford Road were snapped up this week.

“Interest in the South Africa game has been absolutely huge,” said Leicester Tigers managing director David Clayton.

“We have had enquiries from supporters from all over the country and sales have been strong from the first day of sales.

“We’ve had many great occasions over the years at Welford Road and the opportunity to see the world champions in action on Leicester Tigers soil will be right up there. It is a fitting way to officially open the new Caterpillar Stand.”

Although the game is now a sell-out, Tigers have made some tickets available to fans travelling from South Africa, and supporters are advised to contact the ticket office to enquire about any possible returns early next week.

“We’ve got two massive weekends of rugby coming up at Welford Road,” added Clayton.

“Next Saturday features a double header with the Guinness Premiership match against Northampton Saints and a game between the Tigers Academy and a British Army representative side in support of Help For Heroes. Then we have the sold-out match against the Springboks.”

Ticket sales for the Northampton Saints match are approaching 22,000 which is already a record for the East Midlands derby, and Tigers have confirmed they will host a record 1,500 matchday hospitality guests for that fixture.

Match tickets are still available from the Tigers hotline on 0844 856 1880, book online or call in at Welford Road.

New extended ticket office hours are now in operation. The ticket office is open from 8.30am-5pm Monday-Friday and 9am-5pm on Saturdays. In addition, the office will be open until 8pm on Wednesdays from October 28 to cope with the increased demand for Tigers tickets.
